Case Studies
Case study 1
Client A had been in business for nearly 60 years but was in need
of a makeover. Membership rosters were in decline, income was
static and its volunteer base was melting away.
ASL worked with the client to initiate a review process starting
with an independently moderated Board brainstorm. This sowed the
seeds for a new strategy embodied by a change of name and new
vision and mission statements. The aim was to raise the profile
and positive perceptions of the group.
The new plan helped identify the services of prime importance
to members and enabled the development of new programmes. This
new focus paid off with an increase in membership, more support
for the organization from members and a healthier balance sheet.
Since the reinvigoration programme began the client has enjoyed
a near doubling of membership and prospects have never been better.
Case study 2
Legislation passed by the European Union can have a profound effect
upon businesses in Member States. Sometimes such effects are unintended
and without prompt redress companies can be put out of business.
ASL was approached by a group of manufacturers and suppliers whose
interests were threatened by a new EU law. We were able to speedily
organize them into a Europe-wide trade association and take their
case to the European institutions.
The result was that the members of Client B were successful in
obtaining compromises that protected their businesses and the
trade association continues today to represent the best interests
of the sector.
This was an example of where ASLs ability to act quickly and
use our knowledge of EU institutions and procedures was able to
save the day.
Case study 3
In addition to day-to-day association management, we are often
called upon to manage major projects for our clients. ASL team
members prepared a bid for British government funds to help companies
to receive coaching on lean manufacturing techniques.
The bid was successful and we were called up to manage the £2
million ($4 million) project over a three-year period. This involved
us working with over 100 companies and ensuring we made monthly
reports to our government sponsors on the results of the initiative.
The project also meant that we dealt with a range of training
providers and engineering experts.
The result was that the programme was successful in identifying
efficiency savings of over £20 million ($40 million). This placed
our client amongst the best in class nominees when compared
with a host of other sectors across British industry.
Case study 4
Client D came to us with a need for representation in the UK and
Europe for their US based certification organization. They were
seeking someone who could manage their examination and certification
paperwork in a confidential and professional manner and help
to set up a structure to grow their overseas markets.
ASL and the association management option was an obvious route
to look at as we were able to get their new office up and
running within a short time frame. We also ensured that their
limited budget was used to good effect and the market place soon
became aware that they now had a local point of contact for the
organization.
The relationship has prospered and we make regular visits to the
US to keep in touch with our client.
